In 2014, restaurateurs Marc and Evelyne Penvenne who hail from the Bretagne region of France, and who own the popular Méli-Mélo Crêperie, Juice Bar and Catering business across the street, took over this iconic destination and re-introduced customers to a refreshed and more contemporary style of a French bistro and bakery.
The casual charm of this neighborhood restaurant and café remain, while the tradition and quality of Bistro Versailles’ hearty French fare and freshly baked pastries, tarts and cakes has been heightened under the direction of Executive Chef J. Carlos Rodriguez. Before joining the team at Bistro Versailles Chef Rodriguez worked with a couple of the highest rated French restaurants in New York City for more than a decade.
The Pâtisserie at Bistro Versailles embraces traditional recipes for buttery croissants, éclairs, apple tarte tatin, mousse and charlotte cakes, classic dacquoise, Napoléon, petit fours and freshly baked bread. All bakery items are prepared fresh daily, a labor of love that takes place in the wee hours of the morning so that customers can enjoy the highest quality sweet treats, savory quiches and crusty breads.
